All of my web pages are perfect XHTML 1.0 Strict. My CSS is valid level 2.1.

Bravenet sight is updated with perfection. Yet, Bravenet throws all their junk unto it, ruining my perfection. Sigh.

VALID!

Hey! Get this! (I'm so happy)
I validated my CSS and it found no errors first try! Woot! Makes me happy:) No fixes! yah:)

I got it to work! My computer had a brain melt...that is if it had a brain.

okay doke! I did it. I think my computer was having a bad day yesterday because I tried it again and it worked! (sorry about that matt! Thanks for the help -even if I didn't use it!- the effort was nice)
leeannaweb.bravehost.com

I still have to check it and fix a few links that are not working. Not too very hard to do!

Weeooh, I'm glad I got that fixed....except now I have several more chapters of Pride and Prejudice to read and math to do! That weekend has been filled with tiresome things (the ball was amazing btw!)

LeeAnna :) :) :) :) :) :)

Alright, Leeanna

Here's the way it works:

In the first image, that's how the fields need to be filled out, but with your own information. I take it you've already set up the FTP account with Bravenet? You did that in class with Mr. Buck, right?

In the second image, on the left is my portfolio folder on my computer, and on the right is the web folder to which I'm uploading. To get to the folder on the left, just navigate through your computer folders to your portfolio, and to get the files uploaded to the left side, select all of the folders and files on the left, and click that blue arrow just above them, which will upload them to the folder on the right.

Got it? Good. =^)

BTW, click on the images to view a larger version.

): FTP :(

I need help again. (I know what your thinking...."not again" but too bad...)
Okay, my files will not transfer over with Core FTP. It tries but it says it fails. What could I be doing wrong to cause this (assuming it's me and not my computer or connection.)

read my lips: "cun-fuse-edd."

okay...I am confused! I am obviously not a computer genius like some other people I won't mention right now...................

Okay, so....I can not figure out how to add this javascript thing to unit5 and I can not find the three websites that I need. I am cun-fuse-edd! so, 2morrow, I will show up at school totally unprepared for class because I am obviously much better at music then computers! so...I will finish my geography now...perhaps work on my poster and pull out the drumset or something! Oh, beating on things reminds me.....matthew, does your mom know about the hole you punched in the wall? You should move out. Have you considered Cuba?

Hypocritical?

They tell us to make sure our HTML is valid, but theirs is NOT!

*punches a wall*

OK, I just had to get my anger out. I can't for the life of me figure out what this xmlns (or whatever they call it) is. I copy/pasted the whole declaration from their source, and it still didn't work.

Argh.

font thing

Here's a Bravenet newsletter featuring a crazy hack to use a font that's not typically installed on a user's computer without using an image.

Edit: that's the wrong link. Will change and notify later. :)

I did it! I did it! OH YEAH!

OK! NEVERMIND! I AM SO SMART! I FIGURED IT OUT! I CAN'T BELEIVE I FOUND IT! BUT I DID! ugh...I'll explain in class on tuesday. It was really odd....but I get it now....woot woot for me....I can't beleive this....ugh..*sigh*
Yeah,
LeeAnna :D

I discovered new things....how is this?

Okay, I was giving up with my problem and moving on to the homework. I was starting U2M4L2...I understand it perfectly, BUT when I went to do it I found something really odd. Okay, get this, you know how when you move your mouse over a link it shows it's sourse or whatever along the very bottom of your page? Well when I go over the "Unit Four: Graphics" link it doesn't show file:///G:/portfolio_leeanna/unit4.htm like it should (that's not a supposed to be a link btw. oh well...) Instead it includes all of the coding that's not showing up on the page its self. Do you get it?

Like this...move your cursor over this link but don't click on it: http://heisheroic.blogspot.com okay, see the info on the bottom of your browser? see it? okay, that's what I'm talking about. when I move my cursor over the Unit Four: Graphics link it shouldn't say:

Contact LeeAnna by e-mail: gracelikerain@eoni.com

In Mr. Buck's web design class I hope to accomplish a lot, including a better understanding of the web. I would like to be able to make a website of my own by using coding. I am extremely interested in the arts and I hope that this will broaden my horizons when it comes to designing appealing art on the web. I hope I will be able to use the skills to display my photography and music. Perhaps, even, promote my family's business.

Required Projects

..............................." but it does. AND THAT'S THE STUFF THAT'S NOT SHOWING UP ON MY PAGE! so how did I do this? I have no clue....but it's really bothering me....cause it looks fine.....ugh.....
I'm just going to finish what I can cause I'm tired of this.......

How's it going gang?

I hope things are progressing well and this little assignment didn't frustrate you. I saw what you said LeeAnna and was wondering if you got it sorted out?
I was reading back through posts and saw Matthews comment:
"...here's another page that has the same problem as the last one." Yeah. Lol. ha ha ha. Not.
For those of you who have never been Rick roll'd, I suggest you try it. ;-P
That was really cruel Matthew. If you ever get Rick Roll'd, all you have to do is try to close the window. If you successfully click "close," a prompt box will pop up with the lyrics (or whatever). You DO NOT have to click all the buttons. Just hold Enter or Return (depending on your computer) until it goes through them all and closes. It should only take a few seconds.
However, in the interest of fairness and annoying websites, I share with you my all time most hated web site. This is no April Fools joke. It has no purpose other than to irritate. Somebody is probably paying a couple hundred a year to keep this thing online. Crazy.
Blessings,
SV

I need you all to pull me out of this pit.

I did something and I don't know what....or maybe I didn't.....but anyway, help me out....

I went to do my homework, like any good child, when I saw that something was missing in my index when I pulled it up on firefox. It looks like this:

The Web Portfolio of LeeAnna Deal

Web Design 1, Mr. Buck

Unit Four: Graphics
Evaluation of web graphics
GIF vs. JPEG
Web photo album
Sample buttons
3-D box
Receive instructor's approval of banner .............(and on and on....the whole list is there....)

But as you can see everything between the "Web Design 1, Mr. Buck" part and the "Unit Four:..." part is not there! All of the addresses and the "what I want to do with what I learn in this class" paragraph is ZIPPO! not there! It's all there when I pull it up on note pad (all in code of course) and I checked all the coding and everything looks good. I don't get it. AND (get this) when I copy and pasted from the begining to the part where it says "unit four: graphics" (including the part that's not showing up) and made a new folder it all worked fine. I could see everything on fire fox! EVEN WHAT WASN'T SHOWING UP BEFORE! why is this? I can't get anywhere with this problem....and I'm extremely frusterated.....please help if you can!

Thanks! (see, I'm hopeful that you have the solution so I thanked you ahead of time.)
LeeAnna

The Last Firefox 3 Beta!

Get it here.
Packaged as a portable app so that it won't mess up your local Firefox installation.
Firefox 3 is excellent, by the way! :)
I have only tried the portable versions of betas 2 and 3.
Cheers!

CSS woes

I'm having some CSS trouble...

body {
font-size: 1em;
font-weight: normal;
font-family: Arial, Sans-serif;
color: #660099;
text-align: left;
background-color: #F2FFBF
}

I have color: #660099 in there, but my text is showing up still black in every browser except Opera (I have Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera, and K-meleon).

Update: none of my CSS is working at all except in Opera. What am I doing wrong?

Another update: blogger is putting the code in as html. how annoying. anybody got a fix?

Another one...

...here's another page that has the same problem as the last one.

A problem page pop quiz??

OK, Here's the deal. This is not a pop quiz but should be viewed as a challenge problem for the interested. I'll give 5pts. ex. credit for a correct answer.
I discovered a web page that views HORRIBLY in firefox and nicely in IE. Why??
Solve the problem, if you can, and email your results to walgromm at gmail dot com
The rules are simple. You can talk about it with your friends, or me (but don't expect me to help, only guide), and do research online. Use every resource you can EXCEPT online help desks and forums.
I wish you the best! This challenge will remain open until the end of the course, or everybody solves it or gives up. Remember, move little - look much.

Pre-Spring Break

Or is that Pre Spring Break? Or Pre-Spring-Break? Or....?

Anyway, the news is that LeeAnna is sick at the moment, Ashley and Isaiah have left the class (Isaiah first!!), and it's the last day before spring break. SPRING BREAK!

The assignment for today is Unit 2 > Module 5 > Lesson 1: Creating a Data Table. During spring break we should finish all of Unit 3 > Module 1: Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets.

I think it would be cool to have at least two IRC conferences over the break, especially considering that LeeAnna has missed the last class before break (well.... she hasn't showed up yet).

Details on the IRC later....

I'll be going to La Grande tomorrow... see you all later.

Here's my tally. Everyone have a good sunday afternoon!

Homework took me under an hour. Not sure exactly....45 min.-ish... yeah...about that. It was cool. I like coding so far.
MR. BUCK, go to my photo blog! MINE! Gnat's is cool and all, but mine, well, mine is awesome....

About an hour overall. That was fun. =^)

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Swooped up just in time....

Thanks Matt. You where an amazing help. I would have never got that (yes, it's true...not everyone is as computer smart as you....shocking news, I know.) Anyway, my homework (all together -class time and home time) was about 30 minutes. Very cool....now I have to print those questions from last lesson......yeah, well, thanks again.

Oh, and as for those who are wondering about the computer: She is on, but she's is unpredictable right now. We'll see. We will have a working computer as soon as my dad gets home from work (he leaves for 10 days, comes home for 4 days, the cycle goes on....) He will be home 2morrow morning. This will be nice considering he has to fix the braker. WE only have electricity in certain parts of our house. In other words the have an extention cord from my mother's room out to the meat freezer in the school room. Yes, life in wallowa. It happens to us all:) lol...we are all good....

CU all in the morrow. Casual day! Woot! Woot! And just think......I have to take the National Latin Exam..... *pray* lol, C U all....

My computer died....what do I do guys?

Okay, here I am at the library. I have limited time here. When I got home from school today my mom asked me first thing "LeeAnna, do you have any homework to do on the computer?"
"Why do you ask?" I relpy.
"The computer died. So you won't be able to do it today."

AHHHH! I'm here at the library but I can't do much homework here (limited time) and I can't mess with files and stuff. It's only for research and e-mail.....rrrrrrr......guys....what do I do? I will have study hall after lunch. Perhaps then, eh? ....I don't know.....I'm still a bit confused how I'm going to show my work at school if I do it at home anyway. Any ideas of how I can make this work?
Well, I got to go here in a minute. If any of you happen to get this within the next 5 minutes would you be as so kind as to comment so I know and maybe you can walk me through the homework (assuming I'm confused about this whole thing and I can do it on the library computer after all....)

MATT! GNAT! MR.B! R U HERE?
LeeAnna

Homework...and stuff.

Ok, so my homework today took pretty much 45 minutes, like Gnat; did it in class. =^)

Even more homework time!

Today's homework took maybe around 45 minutes... whatever. Messing around in class is too fun.

By the way, I tagged this tally, let's tag all future posts in this subject tally. Thanks, wot!

Thursday, March 6, 2008

More homework time! =^)

The homework from Tuesday took me about 30 minutes to watch the videos, and maybe 10 minutes to download them. Finding and evaluating the websites probably took another 20 minutes.

Today's homework took me 20-30 minutes; I finished in class.

Cheers!

Homework this week

Last night I did the homework after abandoning by geography homework. Watching the videos took like over 30 minutes and the simulation took maybe 15 minutes, I'm not sure.

Blog Assignment Two

Okay gang, now that Lanna has joined the caravan we can all relax. Like the Rangers say, "Nobody left behind." Quit wringing your hands Matthew. :-)

Check this blog daily for conversation and updates. Keep a "general" tally of your time spent on homework and post that time here.

the stars are out

hey Mr. Buck...

laptoplad was here
*litters an empty Pepsi*

finally done with homework, lol.

Smashing in with a late landing. I bring peace.

HEY!
I'm finally here. I'm sorry I took so long. I have two e-mails and the one I gave Mr. B. was my family e-mail. What do you know, they forgot to show me that e-mail. I'm here....Matt can relax now. Stop hyperventilating!.....I'm here.....

Who you are :
I'm LeeAnna, Nanna, Nan, and LeeAnn--depends on which sibling you ask and how bad of a lisp they still have.
-My blog name has been Lanna so if you see that it's just me:)

How old are you?
I'll be 15 this spring. Woot! woot!

Why you want to take this class?
Really, it was my dad's idea first. Though I think it will be a good thing to know for future reference.

What you think your grade will be in this class (be optimistic :-))
I can e optimistic and say an A+ but I'm not sure for sure yet. We'll see hoe it all flows. I doubt I'll do bad though....

What sort of invention does the "web" need to make it the best for the future?
I have a bunch of ideas......I like ashley's though! lol. I wonder who gave her that idea? You hang out with my mother too much:)

What would you do with a $1,000,000 to help the world around you? S
support solar, wind, and water energy. I would start missions and perhaps better Christian education around the world (dream big baby!). Oh! and I'd buy a hydrogen cell to run my new car off of (the one Ashley will buy me.) I'd put Matt in office (president) and Gnat by his side as vise. Isaiah will get to be the guy who leads my mission to Europe..... It's all good......

Why do you think some web businesses fail and other succeed?
Experience, advertisement, and knowledge. I think there's also a bit of talent involved. Also, money is a factor sometimes. All depends on the situation.

What is the most interesting thing you learned online in the last two weeks?
Perhaps personal things with friends (things they tell me through contact- like my space-) I havn't been on much with life going on....you all understand I'm sure!

Blessings,
LeeAnna

Jump on the wagon..quick!

Wow, you guys are moving fast, better post now!
Who you are: Ashley
How old are you? 16..as of November 10th
Why you want to take this class? um, to learn about thiss mysterious place called "web design"..
What you think your grade will be in this class: Um..a good one!
What sort of invention does the "web" need to make it the best for the future? a homeopathic rememdy generator which works like a calculator, gosh!
What would you do with a $1,000,000 to help the world around you? Hm..help raise money to "find the cure"..support the cause of naturopaths, um..buy medical supplies to aid malaria and such in Africa..yeah..oh! And buy LeeAnna a car..
Why do you think some web businesses fail and other succeed? Could perhaps be advertisement. There are alot of diamond in the rough sites that could be really popular, the only problem is that people dont know they are out there.
What is the most interesting thing you learned online in the last two weeks? Hm..it was a bulliten Amie posted, that there are safe and efeective homeopathic immunizaions that you can buy in home kits, and do the injection yourslef:) I want one..bad. lol.

Good Advice from Nathaniel

Hope you all saw Gnat's last blog here. He has a great idea about the rss feed.
copy this link, http://provwebclass.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
paste it in your address bar of the browser,
click it,
it should automatically ask you to bookmark it.
This will place a feed line in your browser that will allow you to see when the blog is updated by anyone.

As to his idea about the chat room, I think they can be addictive and open doors we don't always need to be aware of. Be careful. Honor Christ in all things.

Not to break things up, or anything, but....

1) Matthew
2) 16
3) To learn 1337 h4xing skillz
4) A- to A+
5) Those chaps in Europe could teach us in the US a thing or two about broadband, that's for sure! =^)
6) I'd go on a roadtrip and help anyone I could, spending a bit of time here and there helping certain situations.
7) Poor site layout mainly, slow page loading, poor advertising, etc...
8) News of a 40GB/s connection speed and several features of Ubuntu vie for that position.

let's get comming

Alright, let's get comming, then.

First, let's know when things get posted here. Enter the feed.
http://provwebclass.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

Let your feed reader have this. Or you might use this handy service I recommend and use. Paste in the feed address and give them your email (I'll vouch - you'll get no spam from this).

You'll find my email address in my profile.

If we want to conference: irc.freenode.net. Grab an IRC client. Create a channel called #provwebdesign. Bingo, we can conference.

My MSN account is the same as my email address. Contact me if you want my Yahoo!

Oh, and might I suggest hopping over here and trying Firefox 3 Beta 3 Portable. I'm using it right now, and believe me, it's good. A real plus: the visual refresh. The new Firefox has nice integration with system look. Well, I guess.

Ta ta for now...

3rd times the charm

Hello, web smart people. I'm glad that you decided to visit.

Anyway... on to the homework.

Who you are? Nathaniel.
How old are you? 15
Why do you want to take this class? I want to gain web design skill, real world experience, and have some fun with good friends!
What you think your grade will be in this class? B+ to A+. Is that optimistic enough?
What sort of invention does the "web" need to make it the best for the future: more bandwidth!! OK, how about a morphing of the web into an experience? Hit F11 and get sucked into the WWW, complete with Pandora streamed background music, and optional browsing widgets (claps for Opera and Firefox here).
What would you do with a $1,000,000 to help the world around you? First I would help out our poor struggling school. And then maybe help finance Christian outreach in the United States. After all, if some see us as a Christian nation, we should be a good witness! Ok, we should be one anyway, but... the US is pretty influential on the world.
Why do you think some web businesses fail and other succeed? Some of it can be first impressions. But if web businesses are failing to provide pleasing enough visuals/interfaces and their services don't work, they're doomed.
What is the most interesting thing you learned online in the last two weeks? Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 3 was released. alright, so i had to pick something.

Right, ho, over and out.

Why do you think some web businesses fail and other succeed? style, doesn't conform to the way of the crowd.

The First Blog!

Welcome Students! Senor Venado here.
I hope you are as excited about this class as I am. I look forward to walking with you all down this exciting road of new knowledge and experience. Please make this a regular place of conversation. We will handle most all of our out of class questions and comments here. What you learn and share with us makes us all stronger. None of us has mastered any portion of this great morphing place we call the web and we need each other to help make sense of it and to form the web of the future.
Semper Reformata!

Your first assignment is to post to this blog and answer the following questions (due by the second day of class)। There are no private blogs here, just private emails। All the web can see but only you can post:
Who you are (first names only).
How old are you?
Why you want to take this class.
What you think your grade will be in this class (be optimistic :-)).
What sort of invention does the "web" need to make it the best for the future?
What would you do with a $1,000,000 to help the world around you?
Why do you think some web businesses fail and other succeed?
What is the most interesting thing you learned online in the last two weeks?

See you in Class!!
